Four HKP 9B were delivered to the Air
Force in 1985 as air rescue helicopters and also for civil
ambulance transports. They got the Swedish Air Force Numbers 09071
to 09074. They replaced the aging HKP 2 (Sud Aviation Alouette II).
HKP 9B had a lengthened cabin (25 cm),
which made it possible to accommodate two stretchers. The
helicopter carried no arms. A salvage winch was mounted the
outside of the fuselage.
Two were based at Air Force Wing F 6 at Karlsborg and two at F 7
at Såtenäs. On the 12th November 1991, HKP 9B code 94 of F 6 at
Karlsborg crashed at a take-off from the care centre at Töreboda. The
reason for the accident was a malfunction of the tail rotor. The three
persons aboard survived without any serious injuries, but the helicopter
was totally destroyed.
