Squadron Colours

Since the beginning of the 1940s, each squadron of a unit got a recognizing colour of its own, which was painted primarily on the spinner of the aircraft. The aircrews wore scarves in the same colour (they still do). The colours could vary in the beginning. But on the 21st of December 1944 , it was stipulated officially that after the 1st of May 1945 these squadron colours would be used:

1st Sq. – Red

 2nd Sq. – Blue

 3rd Sq. – Yellow

 Wing HQ – White

Sometimes, when a further squadron was formed; it was given green as its colour.

The squadron colours were intended for pure combat aircraft, but often they were used also for transport units etc.
