The lid is made of sandstone and is dated to the 12-th Century. It has inscriptions, on one of the sides in runes and on the other side in Latin characters. The tomb was made for Sven Dyrmodsson (Dormoson) and was cut by the well-known stonemaster Harald.

The runes read:

BOTILDÆR LÆT GÆRA HVALF
þÆNNA IFIR SVEN DORMOSON. HARALDÆR STENMÆSTARI GÆRþI.

This means:

"Botilder lät göra denna valvsten efter Sven Dormoson. Harald, stenmästaren, gjorde [den]).
(In English: Botilder let this vault be made after Sven Dormoson. Harald the stonemaster made [it])".

A scale in the stone makes it impossible to see if there has been a cross or other sign before the first word.

The text in Latin characters is to the most part a tranlation of the runes. It reads:

That is:
+BOGILDER LET GERA  HVALF  DENNA  IFIR SVEN  DEV . . . OSON  AVE MARIA . GRATIA.

The same as the rune text, but now ending with AVE MARIA GRATIA.
