King Oscar II opens the extraordinary session of the Swedish Riksdag in
1905 The King is sitting on the silver throne in Rikssalen in the Royal Palace. His four sons are surrounding him. From left to right we see Prince Eugen, Prince Wilhelm, Prince Gustav (the later King Gustav V) and Prince Carl. The Riksdag (parliament) held this extraordinary session because of the crisis that led to that the union with Norway was broken, luckily in a peaceful way. Norway became now, after hundreds of years of Danish and later Swedish rule, an independent nation. Oscar II was the last Swedish King who was crowned. The last three Swedish kings have never bore the crown on their heads.
