The Coronation of Gustav III of Sweden 1772 The coronation ceremony was held in Storkyrkan ("the Great Church") near the Royal Palace in Stockholm on the 29th of May 1772. Gustav III (1746 - 1792) was king of Sweden 1771 - 1792. He was assassinated (shot) at a masked ball at the Opera House in Stockholm by the army officer Jacob Johan Anckarström. Unfinished painting by the Swedish artist Carl Gustav Pilo.
