  Kungsbacka Church, Halland

Kungsbacka church is parish church in the municipality with the same name. Kungsbacka has, like many other Swedish towns, been destroyed by fires during its history. The last great fire happened in 1846. A strong wind spread the fire through the wooden houses. Only two survived (and still does). Most of the 500 inhabitants of this little town got homeless.

A new church, built of wood, was inaugurated in 1875. Some inventories could be saved from the old church during the fire and were moved to the new one.

The ceiling paintings are made by the famous artist Einar Forseth.

The earlier churches of Kungsbacka were built on the present Great Square. The locations of their walls are marked by paving-stones in different colours.

Kungsbacka belongs to the Diocese of Göteborg (Gothenburg), the County of Halland and the Province of Halland. Photo: Lars Henriksson, 16th of December, 2008.
