Eidsvoll. Woodcut from 1869.

"Eidsvold" has a long history. In the middle age a court was established at this place.

Eidsvoll was, as all Norwegians know, the site where the constitutional assembly met to draft and sign the Constitution of Norway on 17 May 1814. The building (Eidsvollbygningen) where the meeting was held, was at this time the main building of the Eidsvold Iron Works. Today it is a museum.

Eidsvoll is since the 1930's also a municipality of its own. It is situated in the County (Fylke) of Akerhus. It is nowadays an important commuter town for Oslo. It has also agriculture and forestry industries. The main population and commercial centres are Sundet and Råholt.
