From Hallingdal: Skogshorn, Farm at Hemsedal and Part of River Hemsil at Gol. Artist: H. C. Olsen. Woodcut from 1882.

Skogshorn, 1728 m, is the border fjell (mountain) between Valdres and Hemsedal. The detached mountain top bounds the Hemsedal fjells from the south and is easily visible from a great distance. The side ot the fjell is very steep towards Hemsedal, but the top is easy to ascend from the east.

There is a monument the shape of a cross at the top, first raised in 1880-years and renewed in 1945 and 1980. It is fitted with the inscripton "God signe king and country" (“God Bless King and Country”) and the monograms of King Haakon VII and King Olav V.

Hemsedal is a municipality in Buskerud County (Fylke). It is part of the traditional region of Hallingdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Trøim. In 1897, Hemsedal was separated from the municipality of Gol to become a municipality of its own.
