When
the Air Force was established in 1926, the aircraft for training pilots
were divided into two categories. For the basic training -
”Skolflygplan” = ”School Aircraft”, designation Sk - were used. The more advanced training programme used
”Övningsflygplan” = ”Practice Aircraft”, designation Ö.
In the years around the outbreak of WWII, the last ”Övningsflygplan”
was written off. Henceforth, all trainers got the designation Sk.
When the computers came in the sixties, it was changed to SK. For those who
cannot see the letter ”Ö” correct at their computer display
- "Ö" is the Swedish alphabet an ”O” with two small
dots
