Before the WWII, the Swedish Air Force had only a few specially built aircraft at its disposal. The first six aircraft given the designation Trp - which later was changed to Tp, and finally to TP were flying ambulances. One single de Havilland DH 90 Dragonfly, designated Trp 3, was bought in 1937 for liaison and fast transports. This was the only pure transport aircraft that was bought before the outbreak of war. The
expanding activity of the Air Force during the WWII, showed the need of
a permanent air transport organisation. When the great war was a
reality, war- and airbases, dispersed all over the country, had got
needs of getting important materials quickly. Also key persons needed
fast transports all over the country. During the neutrality guard,
civilian transport aircraft had been mobilised to fulfil this, but after
the peace only rebuilt B 3 bombers (Junkers Ju 86) were left for
personnel transports. |
